The arrested paid Rs 1.35L to friends to assault the 23-yr-old; he confessed that he wanted to refuse marriage proposal on grounds of her disability
Khadki police on Wednesday arrested a 27-year-old trader named Rohit Santosh Agarwal from Talegaon Dabhade and four other men for allegedly hatching a plot to kill a 23-yearold girl, who Agarwal did not wish to marry even though they were engaged. Agarwal intended to call off the marriage on the grounds of his fiance being physically handicapped.
The girl was assaulted with hockey sticks, cricket stumps and beer bottles near the railway subway at Range Hills in Khadki. The other arrested have been identified as Anil Kanade (30), a wedding photographer and Agarwal's friend from Sutarwadi, Rohit Mohansingh Kapadiya (30) of Pimpri and Chand Gafur Shaikh (21) of MIDC Bhosri. The other accused, Rajnish Devisingh Kapadiya (25) of MIDC Bhosari, is still at large.
According to Khadki police, Agarwal agreed to marry the girl from Yerwada due to family pressure. However, he later changed his mind and convinced his other marriage photographer friend Kapadiya to hatch a plan. He asked them to assault the girl till the point she became physically disabled. According to the plan, on February 9 around 10 pm, the assaulters reached the spot where the prime accused had parked his bike and was waiting with his fiance. The plan was to act as if the assaulters were trying to kill the prime accused, who only suffered minor injuries in the mock assault. Meanwhile, the accused left the girl gravely injured.
During investigation, Khadki police learnt that Agarwal had paid the blood money to the accused. He later confessed his original intention during interrogation. Police said that he had assured the accused that he would pay Rs 2 lakh, while he actualy paid Rs 1.35 lakh.
Talking to Mirror, PI Rajendrakumar Laxman Vibhandik of the Khadki PS, said, "We have recovered the motorcycle and other objects used to inflict assault on the girl. The duo reached the spot after going out for a movie and dinner. At present, we are on the look out for the absconding accused."
