PUNE: Unidentified men allegedly stole 1,330 cigarette packets worth over Rs 12 lakh from a godown at Gadital in Hadapsar between 9pm on Saturday and 9am on Sunday.
Shop owner Amit Agarwal (35), a resident of Hadapsar, visited the godown on Sunday and found the locks had been broken. He registered a complaint against the suspects at the Hadapsar police station.
Agarwal, who supplies bidis and cigarettes to paan shops in Hadapsar, had a huge stock of tobacco products in his godown Ajay Traders at shop number three at Vidhate Complex in Gadital.
Senior inspector Rajendra Mohite, in-charge of Hadapsar police station, said suspects allegedly damaged the floor while breaking the central security lock of the shutter to gain entry into the godown. "The suspects stole cigarettes of various brands," he said.
"There was no security guard appointed at the shop. We are analyzing the closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras installed in the godown and other shops," he said.
A complaint has been registered against the suspects under section 461 (dishonestly breaking open receptacle containing property) and 380 (theft in dwelling house) of the Indian Penal Code.
